3-DAY WEEKENDS ARE LONG

I am really glad when 3-day weekends are over. Even though Tuesdays always seems like Mondays, I would think I would get used to it all. But then a short week always follows a long weekend.....so I guess there is at least one good thing about 3-day weekends.
Now if I can only get used to this long summer season. And summer doesn't officially arrive until June 21st. But I can at least wear white now.

METAMORA'S MEMORIAL SERVICE

Metamora will have their annual Memorial Service this year on the Bridge over the Canal even though there is no water in the canal this year. It is undergoing repairs and restoration and will not be functioning until later in the Season.
There will be balloons that the children can loose in place of throwing flowers on the flowing water in the Whitewater Canal in remembrance of those who lost their lives in securing the freedoms for Americans.
May God bless this service and please remember the Service men and women who are in harm's way today.

FAITH, FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND FELLOWSHIP

I am looking forward to this weekend and having the opportunity to fellowship with my family and friends. We are parking cars all three days and I would love to see some familar faces from years past. All is well with the grandchildren as yesterday was the last day of school until August, and today is the first day of summer vacation. The Lord is good to me and my family and I thank him for you and your interest in this blog. Thanks for reading it and I pray you receive some benefit from the chatter of Metamora Patter.

THE PRAYER THAT UNIFIED THE CHURCH

THE FIRST RECORDED PRAYER OF THE CHURCH
BY PAT GULLEY

Acts 4:2
And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said,
Lord, thou art God which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:

The Apostles Peter and John were filled with the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost with the 120 and are now being living witnesses to the Resurrected Power of the Living Lord Jesus. The 120 born again Believers had grown to 3,120 in just one day and met together on a daily basis to worship and praise the Lord. (Ac 2: 41-47)

One day Peter and John went to the Temple in Jerusalem at 3:00 in the afternoon to pray. As they walked in through the Beautiful Gate, they saw a crippled man who had been lame from the day he was born begging alms. This man did this on a daily basis and when Peter and John saw him, they said to him, "Look at us." He did so in expectation of receiving a substantial amount of money because most people draw attention to themselves when they want to be noticed for their generosity.

But then Peter said to the man, "Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have give I thee, IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH, RISE UP AND WALK." He took the man by the hand and lifted him up and immediately his feet and anklebones received strength and he stood up, walked, and entered with them into the Temple, walking, leaping, and praising God.

Everyone recognized him and was amazed at the fact he was walking. They asked how this miracle came about and the Apostles told them not to look at them because it was not by their power or holiness that this man was walking but by the NAME OF JESUS AND FAITH IN THAT NAME.

Of course as is often the case, no good deed goes unpunished and Peter and John were thrown in jail within a few hours because the Temple Leaders were upset at what had happened. They were also angry that everyone in the Temple saw what a wonderful thing happened to the crippled man in the Name of Jesus.
The next day, the Apostles were questioned again and they said the same thing. THE NAME OF JESUS AND FAITH IN THAT NAME MADE THIS MAN WHOLE. In fact, they added these two statements. (Acts 4: 11-12)2

1. This is the stone that was set aside by you builders and it is become the head of the corner. (Head of the Church)
2. There is salvation in no other (person): for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

This went over like a lead balloon with the elders, rulers, scribes. They had a meeting behind closed doors and then commanded both Peter and John that they quit preaching the Resurrection of Jesus and forbad them to teach in the Name of Jesus. Of course, they told them that it made more sense for them to obey God than to obey them and they left the Temple and went back to their own company of believers.
THIS IS WHERE WE SEE THE FIRST RECORDED PRAYER OF THE CHURCH. (Acts 4: 23-31) As you read it, notice that they took it from the first 8 verses of the Second Psalm. It is awesome.

Acts 4:23-31
23 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.
24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:
25 Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?
26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.
27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,
28 For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.
29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,
30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.
31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
(KJV)

They prayed that the Lord would give them boldness to speak the Word of God by stretching out His Hand in Healing, and that signs and wonders would be done in the Name of the Holy Child Jesus.

God answered this prayer and the world has never been the same.

THIS WEEK'S NEWSPAPER ARTICLE

MEMORIAL DAY 2005
BY PAT GULLEY

Rom 13:7Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. (KJV)

I have been blessed to grow up in a community of America where we still honor those who paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we all enjoy today. Those who gave their lives from the Revolutionary War to the War on Terrorism and those who suffered the loss of their loved ones deserve our thanksgiving and gratitude on this Memorial Day of 2005. We are indeed a giving and a forgiving nation. We suffer fools gladly as we watch the burning of the American flag and the defaming of the Military.

The only war that we fought on our own soil is the Civil War. Our Nation was ripped apart as brothers fought against brothers in order to set at liberty a race of people who had been brought here from their native land and sold as slaves to the highest bidder. If we desire freedom for one, we must demand freedom for all. Our Country took a couple hundred years to get the Constitution in full coverage for its citizens. There is much to be desired in our Country but I do not believe God is finished with us just yet. There is still work to be done and people to be set free. (I do not understand how we can continue to kill our unborn babies and refuse food and drink to those who cannot feed themselves and be justified from these horrors by a judicial system that is gone awry.)

I believe we need to stand up for what is right and not be afraid of those who laugh, mock, and ridicule us as if we are the ones out of touch with the needs of others. I believe we should fly our flag and honor our dead. I believe that we need to pray for the lost and the blind as we watch and wait for them to come to the knowledge of the truth.

This Memorial Day will find our High School Bands marching in the streets of our small towns and cities, and many of our friends and neighbors still decorate the graves of their loved ones Our Preachers will be reminding their congregations of the ultimate sacrifice of the ONE WHO GAVE HIS OWN SON ON THE OLD RUGGED CROSS, and we will hear our choirs and choruses singing, THE BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC.

There may be many young people who do not yet appreciate the lives sacrificed and the values this great nation offers to those who arrive on our shores, but I believe that some day they will understand. I am grateful to a loving God who still blesses America and Americans in spite of us, and administers grace to our nation as well as justice for all. I am also pleased that He uses these United States and her many resources to be a blessing to other nations in their times of need.

I take this opportunity to join with all who have loved ones who have gone on to their glory in bowing my head and telling their Creator thank you for the love and the blessing that we have received from their having been part of our heritage.

DON'T LET THE DEVIL STEAL YOUR JOY

There is often an opportunity for Christians to lose their joy when the god of this world pulls off some hineous act that exposes the difference between good and evil. I need to remind myself on a daily basis that I may be a citizen of this Country, but I am not a slave to it. I do not believe in America, right or wrong, but I do believe in right and wrong for Americans.

I will continue to pray for the leaders of this Nation; for this is the will of God.

1 Tim 2:1-4
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
(KJV)

It is my desire that Christians be able to live a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

So I will continue to walk in the joy of the Lord and not allow the cares of this world to choke the fruit of the word from my every day experience.

JESUS IS LORD. WE WIN BECAUSE HE WON AND I CONTINUE TO LOOK FORWARD TO A NEW HEAVEN AND EARTH WHERE RIGHTEOUSNESS RULES.

FYI

Had a good visit with my friend Mark and we talked of the things the Lord is doing in our midst today. We both desire to be a part of HIS Plan and are very excited to know that Jesus is Lord and that all is working together for our good and the good of Christians everywhere. There is coming a day when time will cease, but until that day we value the minutes, hours, days, and years we have to be living witnesses to the mercy, grace and love of God through His Son Jesus the Christ.
If Noah was a witness to his generation,(and he was) then we are the modern Noah's.
So I would like to say that there is plenty of room on the New Covenant Ark and "ALL ABOARD WHO IS GOING ABOARD"

JAMES DOBSON ANSWERS LIBERALS RE: NAME-CALLING

The Liberal Strategy: Sticks and Stones But No Substance
by James C. Dobson, Ph.D.

In the absence of intellectual arguments, liberals in the media and in politics have increasingly reverted to name calling.

When I was a boy, school children would inevitably begin calling each other names when frustrated or angry.

"You're stupid," one would shout.
"You're dumb," came the reply.
"Well, well, you're so ugly your mother doesn't even love you."
"She does too—and you don't even have a mother."

As tempers flared, the kids searched for even more hurtful names, eventually stumbling into the aura of World War II which had engulfed the globe.

"You're Hitler," was the "baddest" insult one could hurl.
"Well, you're Mussolini." (Italy's Dictator)
"I am not. You're Tojo." (Japan's Prime Minister)

With that, the interchange ended. No one knew any more war criminals. There was nothing to do but fight.

I can't help but remember this foray into childhood when I hear today's rhetoric from liberals in the media and in politics. In the absence of intellectual arguments with which to counter the rational positions put forward by thoughtful conservatives, they have increasingly reverted to name calling. I have good reason to understand how those verbal assaults play out. Never in my 30 years as an author and broadcaster have I been subjected to such viciousness.

"Extremist" is a favorite pejorative when referring to conservatives, and especially Evangelical Christians. It means someone who is dangerous and radically different from all the normal people. If the liberals are especially angry, they string these insults together, such as "radical, right-wing, fundamentalist kooks." Then things go downhill in a hurry. These are some of the recent assaults on me and my colleagues at Focus on the Family:

· Don Imus, of MSNBC, called me "half a nut," "a jerk," "a pinhead" and a private part of human anatomy. Then he said, "I would like to challenge Dr. James Dobson to a fist fight. I will whip his a--." How's that for immature dialogue from a 65-year-old man? Imus' response is straight out of junior high school.

· Two weeks ago, former Vice President Al Gore said in a speech to Move On.Org that FRC President Tony Perkins and I were part of an "aggressive new strain" and a "virulent faction" of fundamentalists, which is the wording one would use to describe disease-carrying viruses and bacteria. We note that Mr. Gore couldn't think of any particular behavior that associated us with germs, but that didn't keep him from making the connection.

· Last week, the leftist religious organization Interfaith Alliance, got down and dirty. One of its Board members, a United Methodist minister named Rev. Bill Kirtin, referred to me and Focus on the Family as "the Gestapo." When questioned about the severity of the comment, he replied, "I said Gestapo and I meant it." Rev. Peter Morales, head of the public policy commission for the Interfaith Alliance, said, referring to us, "these are the actions of an American Taliban, or reactionary religious zealots." Remember that the Gestapo was the Nazi killing machine which murdered millions of Jews, Gypsies, and Poles in cold blood; the Taliban blew up the World Trade Center Building in New York and killed nearly 3000 innocent men, women, and children. According to the Interfaith Alliance, we are as evil as these two of the most murderous political entities in world history. This, mind you, comes from a religious organization that hopes to be taken seriously.

· Last Friday, the rhetoric of murder became more specific. Lewis H. Lapham of Harper's Magazine wrote, "Pastor Dobson apparently endorses political candidates who favor the execution of homosexuals and of doctors who provide abortions. I don't think they're joking." Doesn't such a breath-taking allegation as this demand documentation of some sort? Aren't Lapham and the publishers of Harper's Magazine obligated by journalistic ethics to document such a claim? Apparently not! I'm not a pastor, and almost everything I've ever said publicly is still in the record. Surely, there must be one quotation somewhere in my tapes or books that would validate this claim. The fact is, none exists. Their outrageous accusation is like a hot-headed nine-year-old claiming the other is named "Hitler."

Into this environment of hostile hyperbole several weeks ago came Colorado's United States Senator, Ken Salazar. Focus on the Family ran an ad urging the Senator to support an up or down vote for judicial nominees. That has been the custom from the beginning of the Republic until Democrats began filibustering in 2003 (214 years!). After two months in office, however, he reneged on a campaign promise and quietly changed his position. When called to account, Senator Salazar went on a frothy attack. Instead of explaining his broken promise, he began calling us names. He said I am "un-christian," that I'm trying to hijack Christianity, that I haven't told the truth, that I'm selfish and self-serving, and that Focus on the Family and I picketed Mrs. Salazar's Dairy Queen. We didn't even know it existed.

Finally, Senator Salazar began to run out of ugly words, and he blurted out, Focus on the Family is "the antichrist of the world." Sound familiar? Though Salazar tried weakly to retract the charge, he continued to maintain that we are "un Christian." Where does one go from there?

It should be pointed out that in response to this flurry of angry rhetoric, neither I nor any of my colleagues have referred to Senator Salazar in disrespectful terms. There have been no vicious epithets or reprisals. Likewise, we remained relatively silent in response to the article in the Denver Post that shouted, "Dobson seen as driven, divisive," or Matt Littmin, writing for the Rocky Mountain News in which he said, "Dobson looked like a bully, and an intolerant one at that." Despite these and several dozen other unfair remarks, we stand by the main charge—that the Senator offered a definitive promise to the people of Colorado and then immediately reneged on it. That assertion remains unrefuted to this day. It is either true or false.

Salazar has clearly waffled on one of the most important senatorial votes of our time. His flurry of words about my Christian commitment (which God alone will judge) and the unfounded claim that we picketed his wife's Dairy Queen, have nothing to do with anything. Once again, the liberals have exhausted their intellectual ideas, leaving nothing but ad hominem attacks and empty rhetoric.

So tell us, Senator Salazar, are you going to keep your commitment to the people of Colorado, or are you going to continue calling us names? Those are the questions of the hour.

TO BE OR NOT TO BE?
A VERY GOOD QUESTION

BY PAT GULLEY

Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (KJV)

Have you ever asked yourself this question? What does it mean “TO BE?” I believe it means you have the opportunity to let yourself be used by the world, or to be used by God. The Apostle Paul in this letter to the Christians at Rome is beseeching them to present their bodies to their Lord Jesus so that He will be able to use them along with other members of His Church in fulfilling His will in their lives.

Rom 12:1
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

UHMMM. Should I allow myself to be used by God or should I be used by the Devil? I guess that is a legitimate question. I do have the option to be or not to be used. I also have the choice to be useful or not to be useful. What do I need to do in order to be? I need to present my ‘body’ a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which really does make sense. For anyone who needs a reason for living, this is a very good reason.

We do not have animal sacrifices in the New Testament as they did in the Old Testament. Do you know why? Because once Jesus shed His Blood for sins and for sinners, not another drop of blood from any animal, or person could improve on His Sacrifice. Jesus paid it all. Why then does Paul talk about presenting our own bodies as sacrifices? The Jews at Rome would understand this example.

Ps 118:27
God is the LORD, which hath shewed us light: bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar.(KJV)

Under the Old Covenant, Jehovah demanded a burnt sacrifice to be wholly consumed. The animal could be a bullock, or a sheep, or a dove according to the presenter’s resources, but the invariable requirement was that it should be a whole burnt offering. God does not accept less than an utter consecration.

Today what the altar signifies is not doing for God, but being for God. He doesn’t desire our work, but us. Unlike the sacrifices of the Old Testament, which were totally consumed in one final act, the New Testament sacrifice is a “LIVING SACRIFICE”. The meaning of the altar is the offering of our lives to God to be ever consumed, yet ever living: to be ever living, yet ever consumed.

So I ask again, who are you going TO BE USED BY, GOD OR THE DEVIL? Invite Jesus into your heart right now and present yourself to Him. He will do you good.

PENTECOST SUNDAY

Acts 2:1-4
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
(KJV)

I am looking forward to attending Church Services today at both the Metamora United Methodist Church, and the New Beginnings Assembly of God at Greensburg Indiana because I LOVE THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE FAMILY OF GOD.

I could name you the names of the brothers and sisters that I will be seeing at both churches because I love praying for them by name on a daily basis. I believe that the LORD OF THE CHURCH, JESUS CHRIST will be in the midst of our services and will be blessed and will in turn be blessing each and every one of us.

I miss being a Pastor, but I am excited about being a Preaher and a Teacher of the Living Word of God. I still love doing this blogspot, and I am now considering having a guest book where you all can register. The only reason I have never had one before is because I did not want to know for sure if anyone was reading this or not.

Sometimes, IGNORANCE IS BLISS.

HAVE A GOOD SUNDAY AND DO NOT FORBID TO SPEAK WITH TONGUES AS THE HOLY SPIRIT GIVES YOU UTTERANCE.

1 Cor 14:39-40
39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
40 Let all things be done decently and in order.
(KJV)

This is a great teaching by the Apostle Paul and we are going to study it in a few weeks at our weekly Bible Study at the Metamora UMC.

UNTIL THEN

GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ED

DAY OF REST

Saturdays are a great day to rejoice in the Lord. It is the seventh day of the week and it should remind us of the Creation of the Lord and His Divine Plan for MAN.(HUMANS)

This is also known as the DAY OF REST because it was on the seventh day that God rested from all HIS works which He had made. There is also a New Tesament Day of Rest.

Heb 4:1-11
1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
(KJV)

As it says in verse 8, Joshua, though he led Israel into the Promised Land, did not lead them into the true "Spiritual Rest" that the New Testament Joshua, "JESUS" leads His Followers into.

I can rest in Jesus Christ because He finished the works on Calvary's Cross. He paid the price for me to be redeemed and He was raised from the dead for me to be born again by the same Spirit that He was born of, anointed by, and then resurrected by. It is the same Holy Spirit that birthed the Church on the Day of Pentecost. So today I rest and rejoice and praise the Lord as I do on every day of every week of every month of every year until I go to meet the Lord or He returns to this earth.

PATTER'S WEEKLY NEWSPAPER ARTICLE

THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST
BY PAT GULLEY

Rev 1:1
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: (KJV)

There is a Divine Revelation of Jesus Christ that God intends for the Church of Jesus Christ to understand. This Revelation was given to the Apostle John when he was under great persecution for preaching and teaching the Gospel of God's Son. He had been imprisoned on the Isle of Patmos and was treated like a slave. John was a very aged man as this message was given to him in about 96 AD, 63 years after Calvary.

Let's read again the testimony John gave us in his Gospel. John 21:1-25. After the death of Jesus, the Disciples had returned to work as fishermen and spent all night on the Sea of Tiberias and caught nothing. Jesus appeared to them in the morning and told them to let down their nets on the right side of their boat and they caught so many fish the net almost broke. Jesus then told them to come and dine with Him and of course they did. As Jesus ate and drank with them He told Peter to feed the sheep and the lambs. When Peter asked what John would be doing, Jesus told him that was none of his business.

Looks to me like John had stayed pretty busy over those next 63 years. We can read about him in the book of Acts as he ministered in the Church in Jerusalem; but Luke, the writer of Acts, stopped recording church history in 62 AD. The Temple in Jerusalem was not yet destroyed and the Jews were still bringing in animal sacrifices. John wrote three letters to the Churches during this time. In 96 AD the Temple in Jerusalem had been destroyed and the Jews and the Christians were under heavy persecution.

The Lord sent the Revelation of Jesus Christ to the Churches for their comfort and encouragement (Rev 1-3) He wanted them to see Him in His Resurrection Power and Glory and did not want them to lose heart. I believe that Christians were the ones this Book was sent to, and yet the world has taken it and tried to explain it in ways that are not scripturally correct. God did not leave His people to the wiles and whims of the world. And God is not waiting with anger and malice to destroy the unbelievers. God's desire is for all to be saved and to come to the knowledge of truth. (2 Pet 3:9)

The plan of the Lord is still on schedule. It is up to us to read His Word and to pray for knowledge and understanding. It is up to us to believe and to obey His teachings and to heed His warnings. As Pastors and Teachers we are expected to feed the sheep and the lambs and to help them grow up in the fullness of Christ Jesus. (Eph 4:13) We are also expected to nourish one another and to pray for and to love and comfort one another. That means we are to eat and to drink from His fountain of living waters and to remain true and faithful to His Word in this world of tension, strife, and persecution. The days are short, and He who is coming will come. I pray we will be found waiting as a Bride who is waiting for her Bridegroom to arrive. But I also pray for more laborers into the Harvest.

METAMORA IN MAY

The first ten days of May have arrived and as usual are breathtaking. The weather has gone from the 70's to the 20's and back to the 70's. By the end of the week we should see the 80's. Tourists have returned to our town and have been very warmly welcomed. My husband started parking this past week-end and though it was a bit on the light side, he was extremely glad to be back at work. He is a people-person and takes great pleasure in talking to our visitors and finding out where they are from and if this is their first visit to Metamora.
I was at the Mother/Daughter Banquet last Saturday and unable to help him park, and our grandson Patrick was playing baseball so he had to go it alone. But I will be out there this Saturday wearing my new hat to keep the sun out of my eyes. I am very excited to be able to get to help him park again. I was with him our first year parking, but it has been several years since I was free to work on the parking lot. (He had me in the shops and the B&B and the restaurant) I am a regular gal-Friday.
Grandson Matt finished his first year at Miami this week. It is hard to believe his first year is over so quickly. (I imagine it did not see "quick" to Matt.)

ANOTHER LONG DAY

It has been a very long day. I Thank the Lord that His mercy endures forever and that I can place those I love in His nail-scarred hands knowing that everything will be all right.

TODAY WE REMEMBER THE ASCENSION OF JESUS CHRIST

THE ASCENSION OF JESUS CHRIST
BY Pat Gulley

Acts 1:9-11
(9) And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
(10) And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
(11) Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. (KJV)

It has been 40 days since we celebrated the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus. I remember being very shocked the first time I read this Scripture in Acts as an adult. I didn’t know that Jesus stayed around for another 40 days appearing (and disappearing) to His Disciples and to many other people before going back to Heaven to sit at Father’s right hand. (1Co. 15: 1-8) I remember reading it in the Gospel of Luke, but I guess I thought it all happened in just a few days. Here is how Luke recorded it in the first book he wrote. (Remember Luke also wrote Acts.)

Luke 24:48-53
(48) And ye are witnesses of these things.
(49) And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
(50) And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
(51) And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
(52) And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:
(53) And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen. (KJV)

I LOVE IT. I love knowing that the disciples saw Jesus as He floated up, up, up into the sky until the clouds received Him out of their sight. I love it that as they stood there gazing with their eyes squinted tight trying to see Him that two men dressed in white were also standing there with them. I love knowing that the last thing Jesus did was to lift up His hands and bless them. I love the fact that they knew that Jesus was sent from God and that they were being allowed the privilege of watching Him ascend back to God. I love it that they heard the voice of these Angels asking them why they were gazing up into heaven.

But most of all, I love the fact that these two Angels told them that this VERY SAME JESUS that they knew and loved and worshipped, and followed would be coming back in the very same manner they had seen Him go. They must have been ecstatic. They must have been bubbling over with joy and excitement as they returned to Jerusalem to wait for the Day of Pentecost to arrive as that was the last thing Jesus told them to do. In fact He was very adamant about it. They were not to leave Jerusalem until they were endued with Power from on High. The Third Person of the Godhead would be coming in just ten days, but they did not really understand that at that time. They just knew that Jesus was alive. They had no clue to the fact that it would be at least another 2,000 years before He would return to earth to receive his Bride, but they were willing to believe in Him and to live the rest of their lives serving Him and being living testimonies to His mercy and grace.

There were a lot of things in store for these early believers, but God was still in control, and the rest is History. Our generation also awaits the return of the Lord Jesus, and we are not just sitting idly by and complaining about why He is taking so long. We see the work that needs to be done and the souls that need to be won. But we still remember that Day of Ascension and thank the Lord for His Promise of Return. I am excited, how about you?

You're gonna love reading this..the left is trying to figure out Christians

Liberals gather to plumb depths of Christian right
By Jon Ward
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
Published May 3, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NEW YORK -- The 58-year-old man stepped to the microphone and spoke like a zealous Christian anxious to learn about carrying the Gospel to nonbelievers.
"We're trying to understand these people. How do we reach out to them?" asked Wayne Reagan, 58, a retired Housing Authority official.
But Mr. Reagan was asking how to evangelize believers, specifically Christians, with the gospel of secularism.
Mr. Reagan, who is not religious, attended a conference Friday and Saturday at the City College of New York, called "Examining the Real Agenda of the Religious Far Right." The event was sponsored by the New York Open Center, a holistic learning center, and by the People for the American Way Foundation.
Mr. Reagan's question was one example of how liberals are making unprecedented efforts to understand, and even imitate, Christian conservatives. Another conference attendee asked a speaker how to talk to her Christian conservative relatives.
Since the presidential election, Democrats have discussed how to reach the "values voters," who were one of President Bush's largest voting blocs.
Some have said more effort is needed to understand the Christian right. Others, such as the openly homosexual Episcopal Bishop V. Gene Robinson, say liberals "have to take back [the] Scriptures" and articulate their own spirituality.
The conference on the religious right was conceived six months ago by Open Center co-founder Ralph White, who heard a discussion of "dominionism" on a political talk show. He didn't know the meaning of the word, which refers to the belief -- based on Genesis 1:26 and other biblical texts -- that Christians should extend God's sovereignty over the political sphere.
Mr. White denied that the City College conference was "a liberal attempt to do anything," instead calling it "a generic attempt ... to educate people about something that is distant and unknown to many of us."
Some at the conference expressed hostility toward Christian conservatives. One attendee said during a question-and-answer period that she thought the Christian conservative movement is the embodiment of the Antichrist. Joan Bokaer, founder of TheocracyWatch, said conservative politicians have manipulated Christians to vote for them since the mid-1960s.
But some speakers addressed complex theological issues.
Chip Berlet talked about eschatology -- theological interpretation of the "end times" -- and the significant impact those views have on political involvement.
There was much talk about how the Christian right has built a political machine by keeping its religious beliefs under the radar and using "stealth" tactics, as Republican strategist and former Christian Coalition Director Ralph Reed once urged.
Jeffrey Sharlett, who runs a daily report on religion in the press called the Revealer, said liberals should be in, but not of, the Christian conservative movement.
"Instead of railing against the Christian right," he said, liberals should be "going out and talking to them and writing stories about your experience with them."

MOTHER MAY I?

Do you remember playing this game as a child? I do. It was a very subtle way of teaching us the difference between "can" and "may". Everytime I was called on and given some exciting project to do, I would invariably ask, "Mother, can I?" Only to be told, "No, take two steps backward." I am a person who loves winning, so it did not take me very long to discern the difference in saying Mother may I? instead of Mother can I?
Don't have a clue as to why I remembered that little game. Guess because it is May and Mother's Day is this Sunday. That means I will be spending this week remembering Mom and all the neat things she did for us as kids. She really was a cool Mom.....strict but cool. (NO of course I didn't see that about her back then.)
But now that she is 86 and I am 64 the road in the rear view mirror appears a lot clearer to me now. I had a WONDERFUL CHILDHOOD....TRULY FULL OF WONDER.

MAY DAY IN METAMORA

It's May Day in Metamora. My daughters always left flowers outside my bedroom door when they were little. In fact, Colleen brought me flowers last year to celebrate May Day. It's funny, the little things that you remember over the years. Life is good and God is great and I just want to say I love being a Mom.
