METAMORA PATTER'S WEEKLY NEWSPAPER ARTICLE TITLED "WHAT IS A GOOD STEWARD

WHAT IS A GOOD STEWARD?
BY PAT GULLEY

1 Cor 4:1 Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. (KJV)

We have many Preachers and Ministers in the Body of Jesus Christ who have been placed there by the Lord to serve the members of their respective congregations and the Body of Christ as a whole. (Eph 4:11-13). I believe that it is essential that the Ministers and the members understand the importance of the Steward's responsibility in handling the Word of God in feeding the flock and watching out for their safety. The Shepherd's job is of utmost importance.

Col 4:17 Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it. (KJV)

If the Body of Jesus Christ is to grow healthy and strong, then it is imperative that the ones given the responsibility of tending to the Church examine their ministry at regular intervals and make sure they are fulfilling the purpose of God in their lives, and in the lives of their flock. (Heb 13:17)

Who is a good Minister and what can you expect from them?

1 Tim 4:6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. (KJV)

A good minister of Jesus Christ is one who reminds Christians that we live in a corrupt world and in the midst of a crooked generation of people. The times are perilous and God's minister wants us to remember to "Watch and Pray' every day and to stay on the straight and narrow path. (Mark 13:33)

A good minister preaches faith in Jesus' completed work at Calvary. This minister also reminds us of the good news that Jesus not only died on the Cross for the sins of the world, but that He was raised from the dead and is seated at Father's right hand and is today making intercession on our behalf. (Romans 8:34)

A good minister teaches the Bible as the foundation of our faith and instructs us in sound doctrine. (Eph 4:14) A good minister is anointed and appointed by the Head of the Church to minister on His behalf through the power of the Holy Spirit. (2 Cor 3:6)

Col 1:7 As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ; (KJV)

It is important that all Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers be faithful to the Lord and to their ministry. A faithful minister desires fruit-producing Christians and is quick to hear and slow to speak. (James 1:19)

And last but not least, a good steward is one who remembers that the Master is to be served first. Faithful stewards know the members of the family belong to the Father, and not to them . They are simply watching over the flock of God until the Lord returns. Amen
