METAMORA PATTER'S WEEKLY NEWSPAPER ARTICLE

GRANDCHILDREN ARE GOD’S GIFT TO GRANDPARENTS
BY PAT GULLEY

Prov 17:6
Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers. (KJV)

My husband and I have been Grandparents for over 22 years and I would like to say AMEN to this Proverb written by King Solomon. The children of our children are indeed blessings in our life and have been for each and every one of those 22 years.

But when I consider the awesome responsibility we have in the life of each child, it is more than my mind can comprehend. We Grandparents have a wonderful opportunity to affect the next generation in ways that are yet to be revealed. And that effect can be for good or for evil.

II Ki 17:41
So these nations feared the LORD, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children's children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day. (KJV)

It is quite dangerous for any nation or people who fear the Lord to also serve the idols and images of that world in which they live. The children of Israel tried to appease their neighbors and to give the appearance of being no different than their peers just because they were “God’s Chosen People”.

That is a trap that many Christian Grandparents fall into from time to time. It is good for us to remember that we are different from the world. We have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and we are now Witnesses to Him and to His death, burial, and resurrection. We may live in this world, but we are no longer of this world.

John 17:16
They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. (KJV)

A Christian Grandparent has years of experience walking with the Lord and has first hand testimonies of God’s graciousness and faithfulness through the different seasons of Life. These stories of adversity, tribulations, trials and testing as well as the victories and the many blessed events that happen over a lifetime of walking with Jesus must be shared with the grandchildren.

It is also important that these stories to be told, and told and told over and over again. Teaching the next generation need not be dull and boring. It should be done with joy and enthusiasm. But the most important Truth that the Grandchildren must realize is that there is a God and that there is a Heaven and a Hell.

There will be a Day of Accounting. There is coming a Day when all eyes will see and all ears will hear and all hearts will know that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Jesus should not perish but would have everlasting life. That date with our Creator is inevitable. We must not let the next generation down. The Truth has endured the past 2000 years…. we must not let it end with us. It must be passed on to and then through our children’s children. There is a God. He is a good God and He rewards those who diligently seek Him. He can be found for He is near to every one of us, as near as our very own breath for in Him we live and move and have our being. Grandma and Grandpa let those babies see Jesus in you.
