LET IT SNOW LET IT SNOW LET IT SNOW

MetamoraPatter
One of the good things about it snowing on the last day of February is that the days are getting longer and the snow does not last as long on the ground as it does in Dec and Jan. But since I have a love for watching it snow. I will just sing LET IT SNOW LET IT SNOW LET IT SNOW. Care to join me?

THE LORD SAID TO THE CHURCH IN GREENSBURG

1. STIRRED UP......WE CAN STIR UP OURSELVES BY THE SPIRIT WITHIN US

2.CHEERED UP....WE MUST ALLOW THE JOY OF THE LORD BE OUR STRENGTH AND LEARN HOW TO ENJOY EACH DAY AND EACH EXPERIENCE AND CIRCUMSTANCE AS THEY WILL NOT LAST LONG.(BOTH GOOD AND BAD)

3. FILLED UP......WE ARE TO FILL OUR HEARTS AND MINDS WITH THE WRITTEN REVEALED WORK OF GOD...THE BIBLE

4. GEARED UP.....WE ARE TO GET IN GEAR AND TO BE ABOUT OUR FATHER'S BUSINESS OF SEEKING AND SAVING THE LOST AND OF GIVING HELP AND HEALING TO THE HURTING AND HOPELESS.

FEBRUARY HAS BEEN QUITE MILD

MetamoraPatter

A mild February is always welcome in Metamora. There have been several tourists seen walking along the Canal and feeding the ducks. The official opening of the Tourist Town is the first week-end of May but with the month of March bringing us Spring, I suspect we will have many visitors before the official opening. Of course, there will be sevaral shops open, and places to eat and to sleep will be glad to see your arrival. You will be as welcome as the Robins and as special as the daffodils.

I LIKE FRIDAYS

MetamoraPatter
I guess it started when I was in grade school. I liked Fridays then for the obvious reason. No school for two, count 'em, 2 days.
Then I got to High School and Friday night was "GAME NIGHT". Football in the fall and basketball in the winter. Of course growing up in Indiana I loved all the month of March. March Madness it is known as because of our unfettered love of basketball and the High School and the College playoffs. Fridays were still really big.
Then after I was married and noticed that money was important for more than buying clothes and milkshakes and hamburgers, I liked Fridays because it was "PAY DAY." It seems like I lived from Friday to Friday those years we lived in Carmel, Indiana. Of course after going to the grocery store and paying bills we were out of money by Sunday but by then Friday was only 5 days away.
My kids always liked Fridays too. Can you blame them? School may be over for the week, but there was Saturday and Sunday to work at the shops in Metamora. At least they had the opportunity to earn their own spending money and only had to cross the Canal to go do work.
Guess I could go on and on about Fridays but I won't. But I still love Fridays.
Fridays have a special place in my heart and in my memories. Can you tell?

PRAYER WORKS

MetamoraPatter

I sat and watched the news conference today with President Bush and President Putin and was glad to see that they came to an agreement on several issues. I believe that Russia should be a Democracy and that its people should have liberty and freedom to chose their leaders themselves. I have some friends that have gone to Russia to work with the people there and to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There are many great testimonies of the lives that have been changed. I believe that prayer works. The Church in America should never lose its love for and its ministry to the nations of the world.

Metamora Indiana..Canal Town

MetamoraPatter

MetamoraPatter

This is an article I had published this week in our local newspaper.

WHY WERE THEY CALLED CHRISTIANS?
BY PAT GULLEY
Acts 11:26
And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. (KJV)
The disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. The terms “Disciples” and “Christians” are still used today. But what really caught my attention was the ‘first’ time the disciples were called “CHRISTIANS.” I have heard it said that it might have been intended more as an insult than a compliment.
But let’s see what had happened the year before that brought such a name on the disciples. The Gospel of Jesus Christ was preached only to the Jews for the first few years after Calvary. And we know that Peter was the first one to take the Gospel to the non-Jews when he went to Cornelius’ household when the Church was about ten years old. (Acts 10) At this same time, there was much persecution in Jerusalem because so many Jews were calling on Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The Jewish Priesthood was very unset. The persecution got so great that many believers left town and went to other cities with the Good News of salvation. (Phenice, Cyprus and Antioch)
Those who went to Antioch preached the Gospel to the Grecians and many of them believed and received Jesus as their Lord. When the Apostles in Jerusalem heard the glad tidings of the great outpouring of God’s Grace on people of other nations, they sent Barnabas to Antioch to Pastor these young believers, and to encourage them to cleave unto the Lord with all their heart. When Barnabas arrived he saw the new disciples and realized he needed help to minister to them. He immediately sent for Saul (Paul) at Tarsus to come and work with him because he had met Saul in Damascus and was impressed with his love for the Lord, and with his knowledge of the Law of Moses and of the Psalms and Prophets.
Saul arrived in Antioch and ministered to the Church with Barnabas, and after only one year, the disciples were being called CHRISTIANS. WHY? What had happened to these non-Jewish believers that they were being associated with the name of Jesus Christ?
The New Testament had not yet been written. All they had as their BIBLE was the Old Testament. But these Holy Scriptures were filled with the promises of God concerning the coming Messiah. They read about Jesus Christ from Genesis to Malachi. (Many Bibles have these prophecies marked with a backward P) Their hearts and their minds were filled with knowledge and they perceived the plan of God for the human race. The Lord had fulfilled his Promise to Adam and to Abraham. (Gen 3, 12:1-3) They believe it and they lived it. They were called Christians because they had been taught the WORD and The Word renewed their mind, their talk and their walk. (Rom 12:1-2)
The Greek work for Christian is “CHRISTIANOS”. ‘Christ’ means “anointed” and ‘nous’ means MIND. In other words, a Christian is one who has the mind of Christ. When Paul wrote his letters to the Churches, he told the Corinthians in 1Co 2:16, “we have the mind of Christ”, and in the letter to the Philippians he said, (2:5) “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ.”
To let, means to allow. Allow the Holy Spirit to renew your mind by the knowledge of the Word of God. Receive the Word. Believe the Word. Be a Christian. Amen.

GOOD DAY TO YOU

MetamoraPatter

It is a beautiful day in Metamora. February is a very quiet month. Sometimes it can be very very cold with lots and lots of snow.......other times it is just dull, grey, and wintery. Good thing we have Valentine's Day to share our love and prayers with others. My Dad was 90 years old last Monday......Valentine's Day. My Grandma wanted to name him Valentine Roscoe but Grandpa would not have it. Instead they named him William Roscoe. He always loves celebrating his birthday. Everyone loves helping him celebrate it too. When he worked in the County Courthouse as Treasurer and Recorder they would have surprise birthay parties for him. I put an announcement in the Brookville paper of his 90th birthday and he got so many cards, letters, and phone calls that he was amazed. My niece Charlene and her son John drove my two sisters down to Florida and I flew in over the weekend to spend Valentines' Day with Dad. We had his Birthday party at the Crackerbarrel. It was a blast. Everyone in the dining room joined in in singing HAPPY BIRTHDAY to him. People love my Dad......So do I.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE WASHINGTON

MetamoraPatter
Today is the day we celebrated the birthday of the first President of the United States, George WAshington when I was growing up in the 1940's and the 1950's. February 22 was a special day in our Grade School. We were reminded of the importance of always telling the truth, as in, "I cannot tell a lie, Father. It was I who cut down the cherry tree."
And we were taught to appreciate the lives of the brave men who fought for our liberation from the King of England. Every human being who gave his life for the freedom of another human being is worth being remembered and respected. And the leaders of those men are to be thanked. THANK YOU PRESIDENT WASHINGTON. WE REMEMBER HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

Notice to Chris Rock

MetamoraPatter
I am pleased to inform the host of this year's Academy Awards Show, Chris Rock, that The God of the Universe, the God of all Creation and of all Creatures great and small, is well able to multi-task. He can attend to those prayers that are ascending before Him on behalf of the victims of the Tsunami and at the same time receive "Thanks and Praise" from any winners of an Oscar who chose to acknowledge His part in their life and fame. After all, HE IS GOD. He is God and Father of our LORD Jesus Christ and He is very interested in the affairs of mankind.

By the Way, I am also a Poet

MetamoraPatter
I will prepare you right now that I fully plan on posting some of my poems now and in the days to come. This is one of my favorites

MY PAPER AND PEN

To sit down and write with my paper and pen
Is a pleasure I find when there's thoughts to contend.
To write crazy thoughts down make them seem small,
While up in my mind they get nothing but tall.

As they run from my brain down my arm they get tired
Some out of breath and some are expired.
So whenever I feel I'm engulfed by my mind,
My paper and pen can't be called "Waste of time".

I penned this poem almost 30 years ago. It was published in our local paper and I thought I would let you read it today. You will be glad to know that there are many more where this came from.

THINGS NEW AND OLD

This is my first post. I am so glad to be talking to you from my hometown of Metamora Indiana. I grew up in this small but vibrant Canal Town located in Southeastern Indiana. Metamora has gone through many changes and stages and is now a Tourist Town which attracts thousands of visitors a year. In the coming days, weeks, months, and years, I will talk of things new and old. I will also talk about the new me and the old me. As a born again Christian I have learned to count it all joy and to respect the people and the times and the experiences that have brought me here today. I am not ashamed of being a Christian, an American, a Preacher, a Republican, a Woman, a Wife, a Mother, a Grandmother, and a Great-Grandmother. Life is good and so is God.

A DAY UNLIKE ANY OTHER DAY

I consider this a day unlike any other day. I have been wanting to get my own web page for a few years now. When I first heard about "BLOGS" I really wanted to do that too. I read about Blogspot on a Jonah Goldberg blog 2 or 3 years ago. I thought I would try it then but it still was above my ability to figure out how to do HTML's as I had no clue as to what a HTML was. I still do not know what it means but Blogger.com has made it so simple for me to do. I heard Eric Case on NPR station WMUB this am and as I followed his directions it became so simple that even I can now be a blogger.......what a day....unlike any other day in my life. As of now I am only talking to myself but I do not expect that to be the case for very long. I do want to learn how to post pictures and then I will tell my friends and family to look me up in the "blogosphere". By the way, thanks to all who made this possible, expecially all you bloggers who have gone before me. Good job.
